If you would have asked me in 2017 what I would be doing a year later, starting a business would have been the last words out of my mouth. Now, 8 years later, I can confidently say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!!

Lilac Market started purely from a love-hate relationship with headbands. I loved wearing them, but I hated the prices and quality of the options I could find. So, I learned how to use a sewing machine and started making a few for myself—something that could get me through a shift at the hospital and still hold up through my CrossFit workouts at night.

I was looking for a headband that was functional, affordable, reliable, cute and comfortable. When I couldn’t find one that met that standard, I decided to make my own. 

Before long, I was making headbands for friends and coworkers, who encouraged me to start selling them online. What started with one sewing machine and a few handmade headbands has grown into so much more than I ever could have imagined!!

The name Lilac Market was inspired by my mom, who passed away in 2015. She was truly my best friend and the first person I would call to share any exciting news with. She also had a love for gardening and flowers, and growing up, I can fondly remember helping her plant lilacs in our yard.

To this day, lilacs are my favorite flower, and the Kim Floral headband was created in honor of those sweet memories with her. Having a piece of her story woven into the name of this business makes everything we’ve built feel even more special.

Eight years ago, I never could have imagined where Lilac Market would take me, how much it would grow, or how many people would become part of its story. I’m incredibly grateful for every customer, team member, friend and encouraging word that has helped turn this little idea into what it is today.
