With the first long weekend of the warmer season on the horizon, vacation plans are coming up fast. How can you prep to make the most out of your stress-free time? Keep reading for easy tips on how to get yourself vacation ready!
Whether you're leaving for just the weekend or a weeks-long adventure, you want to feel like you've gotten everything taken care of before you hit the road, skies or the seas so you can totally relax. Save this list so you can check things off as you go!
Maybe you're just starting to think about taking a little trip, or maybe it's been in the works for a while. Either way, now is the best time to figure out where and what you want to do! Creating a loose itinerary will keep you from frustration later. Do some research on areas that you'd like to be in, and explore them digitally: check for local festivals or concerts going on that day, specials for museums or event centers, and make sure there aren't any closures for places you really want to visit. And depending on where you're staying, booking early can sometimes get you big discounts or help you avoid extra fees.
One thing that gets forgotten while in the vacation planning mode: when you get back! You can prolong those chill vibes by taking to-do's off your list for when you get home. Work on emptying the fridge of leftovers or perishables by cooking, donating or tossing anything that'll get gross while you're gone. If you have any recurring payments that will be due while you're gone (or even right when you get back), go ahead and get those bills paid so that should an emergency occur while traveling, you won't have added stress. And if you'll be gone for a little longer, do yourself a big favor and call USPS to hold your mail until you return.
In the final days of countdown to vacation time, this is where people can start to panic about what needs to get done. But not you, because you know exactly what you need to take care of! Take a peak at the local weather of where you'll be staying so you can figure out what clothing you need to bring. And speaking of which, having a core outfit planned for all your desired occasions as opposed to number of days you're gone is more helpful to be prepared for anything without over packing (of course including your collection of Lilac Market Headbands to go with each look!). This is also the perfect time to water your plants and solidify a plant-sitter for your needier green babies.
One way to ensure you actually get decent sleep the night before and also don't get too stiff in the journey to your destination is to do some fun movement. You don't need to go crazy, but shooting some hoops, going for a bike ride or even just a decent walk can keep you in top form for when you arrive to your special spot. Do a walk through and empty all the trashes in the house (you'll really thank yourself later for this). To help yourself get excited for the departure, bring along a book you're excited to read or plan out a special first meal or fun drink you'll have as a treat to "kick off" your vacation!
This may sound odd, but one thing we highly recommend is saving the best for last! No matter what the activity or scenery your looking forward to, put it as close to the end of the vacation as you can. This way, you'll spend more time excited throughout the trip and less wasted energy worrying about the "Sunday scaries".
