With wellness becoming a top priority in people's lives and social feeds, it's easy to think of ways to stay healthy: frequent movement, staying hydrated, less stress and a nutritious diet. But are you forgetting the skin you're in?
Follow these simple steps for an easy-to-follow skin care routine that will have you glowing, inside and out!
The fastest way to revive tired skin is to "take off the day". But scrubbing with harsh chemical cleansers or a rough wash cloth can damage your delicate skin, especially the skin around the eyes. Use either a special makeup removing cloth that uses a soft material designed for removing makeup, or a gentle cotton pad with micellar water that won't strip your skin.
Once your makeup is removed, use a cleanser to help deep clean your face and remove any residual layer from your makeup. A foaming cleanser is super easy on skin and gives you that shower-fresh feeling. This is where you can really cater to your specific skin types needs, whether you have sensitive, acne-prone or combination skin. A serum is a luxurious way to feed your need for balance after washing your face. This can include vitamin C for brightening, hyaluronic acid to moisturize and decrease redness or retinol to liven up skin cells. Want the most out of your serum? Apply it to damp skin to help it drink in all the goodness faster, and allow to dry naturally!
The skin around your eyes is the most delicate, and is one of the first places where damage will show itself. Use an eye-specific cream or mask for your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles while keeping the plump and moisturized. Use your ring finger, which has the softest pressure touch of your fingers, to lightly dab under the eye (but not IN your eye!) until absorbed.
Finding the right moisturizer is the best way to truly get specific on your skin needs and take your self-care to a whole new level! It's worth the time and effort to find one that works best for your skin. If you find that your skin is very dry or even combination of oily and dry, you can try a technique called "slugging", where you apply your moisturizer and follow up with an occlusive product overnight, such as Vaseline. Don't worry, it doesn't absorb into your skin!
The best way to protect your skin? Add sunscreen to your skin care routine! A lightweight sunscreen or even SPF included in your moisturizer will protect if from the sun's rays, on a daily basis (which is important, when the UV rays can damage even on cloudy days!). Stick with an SPF 30 as a minimum, but no need to go beyond SPF 50 as studies show that the extra protection is marginal.
