How to Be Self-Positive on Bad Body Image Days

4 minute read

Being self-positive isn't always easy. In a world where the human body has become public domain, it can be tough to get away from the negativity and put loving self-talk back into practice.

Can we be real for a minute? Having a positive view of ourselves is a very difficult, very personal journey. Sometimes, the road is a long one. And it can feel impossible when there's billions of photos, videos and voices all telling us what we "should" be.

When we're constantly thinking about our body image, it leaves little room for that healing appreciation for what our body's have done and can do for us.

But when you're struggling with clouds, how do you find the sunshine in your self-talk? We went to some of the most powerful positivity warriors we know on the internet to find exactly how to remember that special self-care that can be so hard to find: a self-positive mindset on bad body image days. Check out what they have to say for positive inspiration!

@tiffanyima:
"Your body image healing can only progress when you focus on healing in YOUR time and in a way that works for YOU.

Looking to others for inspiration is beautiful, but you gotta understand that your journey isn't the same.

So be inspired, but be inspired to find what works for you!"

"It's OK to have bad body image days.

A part of body confidence is understanding that you truly are a work in progress, and healing is a journey."

@theashleyaf:
"The problem has never been our bodies."

"We all think in order to heal we have to change so much, but in reality healing is accepting who you are."

"This is so important: We need to love ourselves at all stages. Because you can be a masterpiece and a work in progress at the same time."

@lexi.gets.well:
"Taking care of yourself doesn't mean 'me first', it means 'me too'. So many mamas don't think they have the time to take care of themselves because they have so many other duties. But that's not true at all.

In order to feel your best and be your best self, you have to pour into yourself.

Healthy eating, moving your body, personal development, reading, it whatever it is that makes you feel good, do it."

@fitmommyashley:
"If you're too much tell them to go find less.

You must decide that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of you.

Their opinions don't make your bed, pay your bills or fill your stomach, so stop investing your focus and energy into them.

You do you, Boo. And when you do, you'll realize how much happier you become."

@dentist_with_dumbells:
"I show my daughter that we move our bodies for our health, our minds, and to be strong.

The scale can be a tool, but it's all relative and there's other better ways to track your physical progress. So for my ladies, especially my postpartum mamas, please don't hyper-focus on the number on your scale or even the number on your jeans. Remember slow progress is more sustainable and our bodies are changing with each child we birth and each year that goes by.

Love your body where you're at, even if you're working on some changes, and it will be a much more pleasant journey."

@k_stokes829:
"Runners, Women, Men, Moms, Moms-to-be, we need to STOP hating on our bodies!

Love your body and be proud of it! Whenever you're having doubts, just remember all of the amazing things your body has done! Embrace the stretch marks and imperfections! Your body is beautiful and don't forget it!

Right now being a pregnant runner, my body is constantly changing. When I start criticizing my own body, I stop and remind myself of how strong I am and how proud of my body I am."
