Tips from Moms on Working Out with Kids

4 minute read

A Moms job is hard enough, even without trying to find time for her own health and wellness. It can feel impossible to make working out a priority when you have a house full.

As all mother's know, it's easy to set aside what mama needs for the sake of the children. And that's okay! But what's most important for every Mom is to make sure she's taking care of herself so she can be and feel her best, just because. We took the top tips on working out with kids from Moms we know and love (including our amazing customers!) and put them together for tips you can use to remind yourself you're worth it. You got this, Mama.

Become a Morning Person: By far the most popular advice, we heard from tons of Moms that say starting your day with something for yourself is best.

"I know, a lot of people hate me for this but it's my #1 tip. Waking up before the kids is so important because it gives you a little time to focus on you. This also means going to bed early so you can make the shift over time to allow yourself the same 7-8 hours of sleep. Note: Parents of infants, skip this until you start getting sleep again!" - @triple.boy.momma

Include the Kids: Whether they're still in a bouncy seat or "working" alongside you, allowing for your family to be a part of your wellness helps with quality time and instills good habits early.

"I started bringing the baby to the gym at 3 months old, so she knows the routine." Heather Bertram @heathercbertram

"Let them work out with you." @ashleyaf

"Make the kids your weight!" @sarahe.flagg

"When I'm working out, I put her in her bouncy next to me so then that way she can play and watch and support while I'm working out safely." @megachangetoday

Stick to a Schedule: Maintaining a routine or schedule will help take the pressure off Mom as well as set expectations for the family, and can be easier when the kids are in daycare or school.

"Making a weekly schedule ahead of time, instead of just hoping it will happen." @maryswearie

"It gets easier when all the kids are in school." @katieannensminger

"Whether it's an online program like Beach Body, live rides with Peloton or a personalized online coach, make sure you know exactly what your workout plan is for the day." @triple.boy.momma

Remember Your Reason: You can't pour from an empty cup. So when the motivation is lacking to stay consistent, think about why you want to stay healthy in the first place.

"I remind myself that I can't be the best version of me to my son if I don't take care of myself." @marika92210

"Don't focus on it looking perfect - some movement is better than none." @dentistwithdumbells

"You can either join me or wait patiently; but I need to move my body so I can feel better and can play!" @lauren.happy.healthy

Use What you Need: If time is hard to come by, it's okay to invest in yourself by using other tools in your toolbox in order to stick with your healthy routines.

"Screen time - and don't feel guilty about it!" @amydulli

"Find a gym with child care." @hickorylaneplants

"I wait until they go to bed." @making.over.mama

"Pause but don't quit. Allow yourself time to take care of the kids and still hop back into your workout as soon as they are settled." @triple.boy.momma

"Hire a cool babysitter." @amdowney21

Have Grace for Yourself: This might be the best workout tip not just for moms, but for every woman who feels guilty, frustrated or struggles with perfectionism.

"Give yourself grace and remember that a less than perfect workout is better than none at all." @triple.boy.momma
