Lilac Market's Favorite Ways to Move this Summer

4 minute read

Warmer days and longer nights make us want to move in ways that are fun and get our hearts pumping! And if you're looking for a bucket list of to-do's that don't involve the couch, we're listing our favorite ways to stay in motion.

You know when you move your body it feels good - it's how we're made! But sometimes getting activity in can feel a bit... boring, perhaps?

To keep the snooze button from being too tempting, today we're listing our favorite workouts and ways to move that will keep you going through the end of summer and beyond, with enough variety to stay fun! Try one of these every day for a week, and we guarantee you'll feel incredible when you do.

FAVORITE PELOTON RIDE

If you're a part of Peloton nation, it's a great way to increase strength, stamina and your spirit while being in the convenience of your home. But if you've heard the clips of savage inspirational quotes from a particular instructor, you know it's not just the fitness but the fun that keeps bringing followers back for more. The Britney Ride brings you back to the glory days of the 90's while keeping a pace that makes you feel like a queen (just like Britney).

FAVORITE BIKE TRAIL

Cycling is one of the best ways to move because of its versatility - pavement, gravel or mountain terrain of any elevation or distance you want! Plus, your environment is equally diverse with shopping trips around downtown, riverside trails or totally isolated cross-country rides. One of our personal favorites is one local to us, the new Fellows Lake Trailhead found in our own Springfield, Missouri! Great for all levels, this single-track trail system is perfect for a Midwest summer morning.

FAVORITE CROSSFIT WOD

With the Murph challenge just behind us, it's good to stay on the strength-building track with a fun CrossFit Workout of the Day (WOD). And most are easily doable or modified for beginners. Many WODs have feminine names attached to them, and one of our favorites is the Cindy WOD!

FAVORITE YARD SPORT

We love group activities. And, admittedly, we also love a little competition and smack talk. Pickeball is the latest sport sweeping the nation, and doesn't require any previous experience! If you married together ping pong and tennis, their child would be Pickleball. With 2 to 4 people for a proper game, this yard game will be your new favorite holiday family tournament!

FAVORITE YOGA FLOW

Even gentle, low-impact movement can get your blood flowing! Doing a yoga flow is the perfect way to get active recovery after a couple of days of work, or to prep for more intense exercise later. But don't worry, you can still stay active gently in our favorite Moon Salutation flow, where you work bilaterally (side to side). This sequence helps increase mobility and soothe sore muscles.

FAVORITE HIKE

Hiking is the tried-and-true way to get movement in without realizing it. You're out in Mother Nature, taking in the scenery, enjoying deep breaths of fresh air and maybe even a swimming hole at the end for a reward. You can totally unplug by focusing on recognizing bird calls, identifying plant life and watching local critters do their day's work. Not to mention studies show that just a couple of hours of hiking a week significantly improves brain function and reduces stress. Busiek State Forest and Wildlife area is one of our favorite Ozark spots to get a good hike in with great views and a little water flow to cool down.
