Do you wish you had a better understanding of what colors go well together when choosing your outfit?
With spring right around the corner and color matching a rising trend, it’s a fun way to feel confident no matter what colors you’re choosing, especially with your
Lilac Market Headband!
What is color matching?
Color matching is when you use complementary colors to create a palette. They can work for anything - from a room, to an event, to your outfit. You’ll be able to mix and match colors, all while staying in harmony with the base color you want.
Why would I use color matching?
In a professional setting, it makes you more memorable. Going in for an important job interview? The person you spoke with may not remember your answer to every single question, but they’ll remember that gorgeous combination of colors you rocked! Personally, colors can inspire feelings of confidence, creativity or calm.
Don’t match - complement!
Complementary colors are ones that are on the opposite sides of a color wheel from each other (basically, a high contrast pair). A color wheel is a circle diagram that illustrates the relationships between different colors. To find your complementary color, simple find the color you’re starting with, and draw a line straight across!
Add neutrals!
The best way to keep from clashing is to choose one pop of color along with a neutral. Neutral tones are black, white, gray, beige, tan, olive and navy. You can find the perfect one by picking your color first, then choosing a light or dark neutral depending on the brightness of the color. Have a dark purple? Go with a light tan. Soft pink? Dark gray is a great neutral.
Pink, Red, and White go well with light or dark blue. Choose any shade of grey (no pun intended) as your neutral.
Orange, Beige and Yellow pair best with dark olive, purple or navy. The best neutral would be a light beige.
Green, Light Blue and Dark Blue are perfect for orange, dark purple and black. Use an olive neutral for maximum impact.
Purple, Brown and Grey can get away with bright colors like orange, red and pink. Make navy your neutral and you'll be set.
But... what if you prefer all-neutral outfits?
Neutrals work perfectly with tonal (within the same color hue but different brightness and saturation) and contrasting color palettes. But this basic color scheme is anything but boring!
White, Ivory and Cream look stunning with literally any other neutral. White, khaki, tan, olive, grey or black would be an amazing combo.
Nude, Beige and Tan work best with darker neutrals, and is a total trend that gives off classy vibes. Stick with olive, dark grey or black with these tones.
Khaki, Olive and Grey go as well as cream with coffee. Keep your neutral balanced with a light ivory or tan.
Black is definitely the most popular neutral, and can be a powerful outfit staple. Pair it with any other neutral to keep it from getting too dark.
